Land Acknowledgment

Sanctuary’s staff and community partners are situated on traditional, unceded, and treaty territories across B.C. and Alberta. We honour and value the culture, spirituality and governance of the first peoples of so-called Vancouver and Calgary, including but not limited to the šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmaɁɬ təməxʷ (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh-ulh Temíx̱w (Squamish), and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ təməxʷ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, as well as the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot Confederacy), the Îyârhe Nakoda of the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations, and the Dene of the Tsuut’ina First Nation. Southern Alberta is also home to the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, Calgary Elbow District.

As a queer-centered organization, we acknowledge the cultural and spiritual value Two-Spirit people bring to 2SLGBTQIA+ and Indigenous communities as we seek to decolonize our understandings of sexuality and gender.
