Affirming is a term that describes a community of faith or ministry that actively includes and celebrates members of the 2SLGBTQIAP+ community in all aspects of spiritual and social life. People of all gender identities and sexual orientations have the right to marriage, ordination, and participation in an Affirming community of faith. In addition, Affirming ministry supports the exploration of Queer Theology and centres Queer identity in worship, leadership, and community life.

Can I be Queer and be part of this community?

Sanctuary was built by Queer people for Queer people! This community seeks to connect Queer people to a network of support, a compassionate and faithful community of other Queer and Affirming members, and celebrate the importance of Queer people in communities of faith and beyond. You are invited in your fullness to be part of our community.

Do I have to join the Discord server?

You don’t have to join our Discord server to be part of our Sanctuary community. However, the Discord server offers the most up-to-date information about our events and programs, direct lines to our support staff and clergy, and is the best way to communicate with other members of the group. Do I have to be religious to be part of this community?

No, you do not have to be a member of a community of faith or practice a religion to join Sanctuary. We will not impose religious beliefs on you, nor will we try to get you to join our churches. This is a safe space where people who are religious, spiritual, or agnostic can find connection and community support.
