Sanctuary Community Building Workshop – Prince George

You’re invited to Sanctuary West’s Community Building Workshop for volunteer leaders and clergy! Join our training on October 17th, 2026 from 8:30am – 5:00pm at Trinity United Church. The workshop has been designed to develop community outreach techniques, foster leadership, and connect with other Affirming communities.

Sanctuary West is an ecumenical program and platform that champions Queer and Youth connections within communities of faith. We have developed a digital network through Discord, a free online communication platform, where members can connect with other Queer and Affirming people, access real-time support from our network, discuss Queer theology, and receive Affirming pastoral care.

Through our workshop, you will gain access to our digital community, learn how to use online platforms to build and maintain community, and practice proven ways to engage and support Queer people and Youth within your community of faith and beyond. This workshop serves as a forum for communities of faith separated by geography to rebuild and strengthen an Affirming network within Northern BC and throughout the Pacific Mountain Regional Council.

The animators for the workshop are Ben Dobyns, Kendra Mitchell-Foster, and Lindsay Ansley. This workshop is free for all attendees.

The workshop is followed by a Drag Communion service at Knox Performance Centre on Sunday, October 18th at 10:00am. A crossover of two sacred meals—drag brunch and holy communion—Drag Communion brings together drag performers, clergy, and communities of faith to celebrate and centre queer sacredness. Drag Communion offers us a space for radical love for ourselves and others. Come as who you are and celebrate the unconditional love of the communion table.

For those travelling to attend the workshop and Drag Communion service, there are rooms available to book at Grama’s Inn for $98 per night. When booking, mention that you are under the Trinity United group rate. Limited billets are also available for overnight accommodation. There is a fund available to cover gas mileage for attendees driving to Prince George for the workshop. For more information about accommodations and mileage, contact us at staff@sanctuarywest.ca.
